Greek City Times enjoyed catching up with Will Roberts recently to learn more.
I spent 3 months educating myself on General George C Marshall and with the Manhattan Project. I wanted to know all I could before I entered the scene with six other name talents. I worked with Melissa Davis the librarian at the Foundation www.marshallfoundation.org
In "Italian Kidnapping," I play Tony, a slick, smooth hustler, quite the opposite of the honest and historical figure of General George C. Marshall in "Oppenheimer." While Marshall was a five-star general who shaped history, Tony in "Italian Kidnapping" is a comedic, over-the-top character who ends up caught in his schemes. This role was a fun departure into comedy, allowing me to flex my acting chops in a lighter, more exaggerated manner.
The director, George, and my agent at Enorama Talent Agency approached me with what they described as the perfect character for me. They gave me the freedom to take Tony in any direction, which was both enjoyable and a creative challenge.
Working with George was a pleasure; he trusted me to shape my character, which added to the enjoyment and challenge of the role. Collaborating in Athens with both American and Greek actors was an enjoyable and sometimes hilariously challenging experience due to the language differences.
I embrace each role I am playing at the moment. Whether it's researching historical figures or enjoying the creative freedom of comedy, each genre offers its rewards and challenges.
Given the international setting of the film, how did filming in locations like Athens, Kos, Apulia, and Brindisi enhance the storytelling and your portrayal of Salvatore?
Filming in places like Athens was incredibly inspiring. The history and beauty of the locations brought an authentic international flavor to my portrayal of Salvatore, making it easier to inhabit a worldly character.
The director was excited to incorporate my skills with a rope into the film, which led to some very humorous moments on screen. It’s always fun to integrate my special skills into new characters.
I hope the film highlights the synergy between international talents and provides a fresh perspective within the comedy genre, blending cultural influences for a unique cinematic experience.
My advice is to gain as much on-the-job training as possible. Work across different mediums, and don't take rejections personally—keep moving forward.
Acting for me is not just a profession but an extension of who I am. I aim to transcend the act of performing to deliver truly authentic experiences to the audience.
My ultimate goal is to become an A-lister and win an Academy Award. I am always striving for the top!
Visiting Greece was breathtaking. With my Greek background, I felt a deep connection to Athens and look forward to returning to explore more of this beautiful country.
