Giorgos Mazonakis Determined to Fight Sister Vaso in Court

Mazonakis with his sister Vaso Mazonakis

Giorgos Mazonakis appears determined to take the legal battle with his sister Vaso to court. This is evidenced by his second statement, which he signed himself instead of having his law firm do so.

The initial precautionary measures announced by Theocharis Mantas‘ law firm targeted his unnamed sister. These measures were seen as a warning to find a compromise and settle the dispute out of court. However, the second statement took a much harsher tone.

In the statement, Mazonakis said: “In order to effectively resolve the dispute that has arisen with the company that manages my artistic work, I was today obliged to serve an extrajudicial notice setting a deadline for the delivery of all the financial records of my company by the outgoing management.

If this deadline is not met, I intend to bring an action for an account before the competent courts so that the management of the company’s affairs can be audited.

P.S.: The case seriously affects me financially, professionally and personally. It is a great disappointment to trust your close and loved ones and to discover that they only saw you as an object of exploitation.”

Sister Vaso Previously Managed Finances

While the statement avoids directly mentioning her name, it’s clear that the outgoing management of the company handling Mazonakis’ artistic activities was previously controlled by his sister, Vaso Mazonakis. This means she likely had direct access to his income from record sales, nightclub appearances, concert fees, and even the company’s bank accounts.

This company is separate from the one that manages a property in Mykonos, which was the target of Mazonakis’s previous precautionary measures.

The second statement concerns the main company handling Mazonakis’ artistic career, which managed his rights and fees. In 2020, this company was still under Vaso Mazonakis’ name.

Two years later, despite their relationship friction, Vaso remained in charge of the management. However, according to reports, she left in July 2023, transferring 99% of her shares to her brother and 1% to another person.

Since then, the siblings’ dispute has reportedly intensified. Giorgos repeatedly requested financial information and balance sheets from the company but never received them. This latest statement reflects his frustration and his intention to pursue legal action if the information isn’t provided.

His Work Continues Despite Family Feud

While some might question his decision to travel to Crete amidst a family feud, the reason is purely artistic. Mazonakis recently released a new song, “Thalasses,” a unique cover of the original recording by Ilias Klonaridis.

True to his artistic style, Mazonakis travelled to Crete to film a visually striking music video similar to those he’s known for. He seems determined to keep his artistic career on track while leaving the family dispute to be settled through legal channels.

News of his decision to pursue legal action spread quickly among his friends, who were already aware of the general content of his statement. Based in his renovated olive press on Crete, Mazonakis reportedly scouted filming locations with his collaborators.

When questioned by friends about his feelings regarding the family conflict, Mazonakis surprised them with his response. “Now I feel that I am free and don’t be sad,” he stated, clearly demonstrating his resolve to move forward despite the situation with his sister.

If Mazonakis doesn’t receive all the financial records related to his artistic activities from the outgoing management (his sister Vaso) within the set deadline, he will take legal action. This would involve an “action for an account,” which would compel a court-ordered audit of the company’s finances.

According to legal sources, Vaso Mazonakis has already been served with the extrajudicial notice. If she doesn’t comply, the next step will likely be the aforementioned legal action.

Vaso’s ongoing silence, despite attempts at communication through lawyers, suggests the situation might escalate further in the coming days. This could potentially involve legal action from her side as well.

As the statement implies, the rift between the siblings seems to have been developing for years. Vaso previously acted as Mazonakis’ “shadow,” often accompanying him to performances until around four years ago.

Her disappearance from the scene sparked rumours, but according to Mazonakis’ side, there was hope until recently that the financial dispute could be resolved without resorting to court.

Despite the initial precautionary measures concerning a property in Mykonos, which his lawyer believed would encourage his sister to “take initiatives that would create conditions for peace and an effective resolution of the dispute,” this apparently did not happen.

The emotional postscript of the statement, although not mentioning Vaso by name, expresses Mazonakis’ deep disappointment and sorrow over the situation with a close family member.
