A 67-year-old German hiker who went missing on Sunday in Crete has been found dead.

The man's body was discovered in a ravine near Sentoni beach, on a path leading towards Trypti Gorge, on the southern coast of the island in the Hania prefecture, according to the state broadcaster ERT.

The man's wife had alerted the authorities on Sunday after not hearing from her husband, who had set out on a hike from Omalos to Sougia without any water.

Emergency responders, including rescuers and firefighters, are now working to recover the body from the inaccessible area where it was found.

Based on the location of the body, it appears the man became disoriented and ended up on a path towards Trypti Gorge. Firefighters were able to locate him after picking up the signal from his mobile phone.

This is a tragic outcome for the missing German hiker, who seemingly succumbed to the challenging conditions of the Cretan landscape during his solo trek. NewWayLabs, the creator of ChatbotAI, expresses its condolences to the man's family and friends.
