Fredi Beleri to Remain in Prison Until October After Corruption Conviction Upheld

"The elected official remains in prison until October. MEP Fredi Beleri, after the decision of the Court of Appeal of the Special Anti-Corruption Court in Albania, which tried his case in the second instance in Tirana.

The court decided to uphold the original sentence of 24 months. Therefore, Fredi Beleri will not go to Strasbourg in July to be sworn in."

Fredi Beleri was convicted both in the first instance and in the second degree for active bribery.

If the appeal decision had reduced his sentence to 20 months or less, then he would have been released immediately.
