Fire Engulfs Yarraville Greek Restaurant in Suspicious Incident

A beloved Greek restaurant in Melbourne's west was engulfed in flames early Friday morning, with authorities investigating the incident as suspicious.

Emergency services responded to Eleni’s Kitchen on Anderson St around 5 am, where smoke billowed from the double-storey building housing the popular eatery.

Firefighters swiftly contained the blaze, conducting thorough searches to ensure all occupants were safe. The fire originated in Eleni’s Kitchen and Bar and spread to Jimmy’s Deli next door, which is also owned by the same family. Both establishments suffered significant damage, with shattered windows and charred interiors.

Jimmy, the owner of the neighbouring dry cleaners, expressed shock at the devastation, noting the close-knit nature of the community on Anderson St. A nearby florist also sustained damage during the incident.

With the owner currently abroad in London visiting a sick relative, the community has rallied in support amidst the heartbreaking aftermath. Authorities have established a crime scene, and an arson chemist is expected to investigate further later today.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation as police continue to treat the incident as suspicious.
