Greece's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May 2024 has been announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), standing at 10.6%. This marks a decrease from the revised 11.2% in May 2023 and a slight drop from the revised 10.7% in April 2024.
The number of unemployed individuals totalled 504,924, reflecting a decline of 21,707 persons compared to May 2023 (-4.1%) and a decrease of 11,472 persons compared to April 2024 (-2.2%). The unemployment rate for women was 13.8%, down from 14.6% in May 2023, while for men it stood at 8.1%, down from 8.4% in the previous year. Among age groups, unemployment was highest among those aged 15-24 at 23.8%, showing improvement from 25.2% in May 2023, and stood at 9.9% for those aged 25-74, down from 10.3%.
Conversely, the number of employed persons totalled 4,249,074, indicating an increase of 53,313 persons compared to May 2023 (1.3%) but a decrease of 63,083 persons compared to April 2024 (-1.5%).
Meanwhile, individuals outside the labour force, comprising those under 75 who neither work nor seek employment, numbered 3,026,511. This reflects a decrease of 54,608 persons compared to May 2023 (-1.8%) and an increase of 72,256 persons compared to April 2024 (2.4%).
