Fire Brigade Fines and Arrests Individuals for Burning Weeds, Using Flares

Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain fires on the islands of Kos, Chios, and Heraklion, which ignited on Monday.

The Fire Department announced on Tuesday that the situation in Kos and Chios has improved, with firefighters managing several scattered outbreaks. In Heraklion, Crete, the fire currently has no active fronts.

Despite this progress, a new fire erupted early Tuesday in the Geraki area of Heraklion, Crete. The Fire Department has deployed 75 firefighters, 2 ground teams, 24 vehicles, and 2 helicopters to tackle the blaze. Authorities have arrested and fined several individuals for burning weeds and using flares, actions that have contributed to the fire outbreaks.
