Students from the Hellenic College of Thessaloniki have triumphed at the World School Basketball Championships in Macau, China, bringing home the gold medal.

Their victory came after a decisive 74-63 win against France, with the hall resounding in celebrations and draped in blue and white.

The students expressed immense joy and described their win as “magical and like a dream.” Stavroulla-Aimilia Founta, the school’s director, praised their dedication, noting the intense training and effort that led to their success despite a demanding academic schedule.

Competing against 20 countries, the Thessaloniki team excelled, advancing through Group 2 with opponents from Cyprus, Turkey, Bulgaria, and China. Beyond the competition, the event also featured workshops on student safety in sports venues and anti-doping measures.
