Pakistani handcuff arrested Thessaloniki

On Tuesday, a 38-year-old man from Pakistan was arrested in a village of Rhodes for cultivating a plantation with 28 cannabis seedlings. At the same time, a compatriot of his was also detained on the island for an arson attempt.

Police officers of the Ialyssos Department in Rhodes arrested a Pakistan national for drug trafficking, the possession and cultivation of cannabis plants, insubordination and violence against employees.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Mr Mario Maravelia, the 38-year-old man was brought before the Rhodes investigator, where he testified and denied the accusations attributed to him, claiming that he was a drug user and that the plants were for his own use.

With the consent of the prosecutor, the Pakistani was released under the restrictive conditions of being prohibited from leaving the country and needing to appear at the local police station on the first fortnight of each month.

It is recalled that the case was investigated by police officers of the Ialyssos Police Department as part of the existing action plan to combat the spread of drugs.

Police on June 29 saw the foreigner repeatedly going to the plantation site, carrying out cultivation work and cutting cannabis plants. However, he was stopped by police officers and attempted to resist arrest.

A search of his residence, which borders the farm, followed, where additional potted cannabis plants were found. In total, 28 saplings, up to 1.5 metres in height, were found, uprooted, and shredded.

It was also established that the foreigner had entered and resided illegally in Greece.

Meanwhile, another Pakistani was arrested on the Greek island for attempted arson, this time by staff of the Rhodes Fire Service.

According to Rodiaki, following complaints made to the Rhodes Fire Service, the foreigner was spotted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. trying to set fire near Kolymbia on the Rhodes-Lindos road.

He was immediately arrested and detained, and a criminal case was filed against him.
