A 4th of July Reflection: The Athenian Spirit in American Democracy

Hark, citizens of Greece! On this day, when the people of a land far across the sea celebrate their independence, let us too recall the legacy of our ancestors. For know ye, the very foundations of this new nation, this "United States", are deeply intertwined with the spirit of Hellas!

The founders of this nation, learned men all, delved deeply into the wisdom of our philosophers - Aristotle, Plato, Solon. From them, they learned the principles of democracy, the rule of law, and the importance of a government accountable to its people. Just as our polis stood as beacons of self-governance, so too have they sought to create states where citizens hold the power.
