earthquake

A 4.9 Richter earthquake shook the area between Kyllini and Zakynthos on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake’s epicenter was initially reported as 17 kilometers south-southwest of Kyllini. A revised report later placed the epicenter 10 kilometers southwest of Andravida.

The focal depth of the tremor, which was strongly felt in Ilia, Achaia, and Zakynthos, is estimated at 14 kilometers. Despite the intensity of the earthquake due to its relatively shallow depth, residents reportedly reacted calmly.

In a statement to ERTNews, the President of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP) and Professor of Geology, Efthymios Lekkas, stated that aftershocks are possible.
