Athens, Greece - Excitement is building as Greece prepares to send a powerful delegation of 101 athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This marks the country's largest Olympic team in 12 years, matching the contingent that competed in London back in 2012.
"Team Hellas" will be showcasing their talent across 16 different sports, with a particularly strong presence in aquatic disciplines. Nearly half of the delegation, a remarkable 45 athletes, will be competing in swimming, artistic swimming, marathon swimming, and water polo.
Among the athletes are familiar names and rising stars. Gymnastics fans can cheer on Lefteris Petrounias, who aims for his third Olympic medal after securing silver at the World Championships. After a 20-year drought, Greece will be back in Olympic equestrian with Ioli Mytilineou competing in individual show jumping. The sailing team boasts four athletes, including veteran Olympian Byron Kokkalanis in the iQFOiL class.
Swimming promises to be a thrilling showcase, with Apostolos Christou (backstroke), Anna Ntountounaki (butterfly), and a host of other talented individuals aiming for the podium. The men's basketball team, featuring NBA stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Georgios Papagiannis, returns to the Olympic stage after a 16-year absence, riding high on their recent victory in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Other athletes to watch include Panagiotis Gionis, set to make history with his sixth Olympic appearance in table tennis, and Dora Gkountoura who will represent Greece in fencing.
With a blend of experience and fresh talent, Team Hellas appears poised for a strong showing in Paris. The eyes of the nation will be on these athletes as they strive for Olympic glory and inspire a new generation of Greek sports stars.
