Le Figaro described Lipsi as "a microscopic Garden of Eden" in the new list of Greece's "secret" islands that stand out in 2024.
"Lipsi, nestled east of Patmos and north of Kos (the archipelago's main airport), is one of those discreet, even secret, Greek islands where the boat usually only makes one stopover on its way to the more touristy destinations of the Dodecanese," explains the French newspaper.
"Along with the natural beauty, our concern is the protection of the natural environment and the creation of quality living conditions for residents and tourists. Through a series of initiatives, we have made Lipsi a model of water sufficiency despite the water shortage conditions that prevail at a pan-Hellenic level," explained the Mayor of Lipsi, Fotis Mangos.
A water supply remote control system has been procured to detect leaks, check energy performance and record consumption.
Soon, the project of expanding the water supply network by 8 km will begin so that every household will have water, and the island will ensure water autonomy with 100% drinking water.
The projects and actions implemented so far in the Municipality of Lipsi have led to a double-digit reduction in water consumption and waste and increased production.
"The quality of the destination at every level is also the reason for the lengthening of the tourist season and the increase in arrivals this June as well, compared to 2023," announced the mayor.
Alongside the infrastructure projects at an environmental level, the Municipality implements a series of original tourist promotion actions, such as the video clip that combines traditional island music with rap, filmed on the island and has exceeded 230,000 views.
