Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations while in Washington for the NATO summit, Mitsotakis stressed the importance of this agreement, which enabled North Macedonia's NATO membership by Greece lifting its veto.
"The Balkans often see unexpected resurgences of nationalism," Mitsotakis said, referencing North Macedonia. He expressed concerns about the new North Macedonian government's domestic use of "Republic of Macedonia," which he believes undermines the country's European integration efforts.
Mitsotakis also highlighted Greece's alignment with its allies in supporting Ukraine, despite Greece's historical ties with Russia. He noted that European support for Ukraine remains strong and unwavering, with minor exceptions among EU member states.
