Thessaloniki residents face a transportation hurdle today, July 10th, as the Organization of Urban Transport of Thessaloniki (OASTH) employees have declared a 24-hour strike.

This surprise announcement, according to OASTH management, comes just hours before the highly anticipated inauguration of the organization’s Electric Bus Charging Station – a significant project for both OASTH and the city as a whole.

The union cites the Ministry of Finance’s refusal to fully accept their demands for a new collective bargaining agreement as the reason for the strike. OASTH management, however, emphasizes that they’ve offered a substantial increase in benefits – roughly 50% compared to the previous agreement.

To minimize disruption for passengers, especially on a day forecast to have high temperatures, OASTH management is taking legal action to prevent the strike and will allocate personnel to operate a limited service of 50 buses.

The special service vehicles of the A.M.E.A. and the night line of the airport will circulate normally.
