A significant increase in COVID-19 cases has led to a corresponding rise in hospitalisations, intubations, and deaths in Greece, according to the latest epidemiological report from the National Public Health Organization (EODY).
Greek data released for the week of July 1-7 revealed a sharp uptick in new COVID-19 admissions, with 575 patients requiring hospitalisation. This figure represents a substantial increase compared to the previous four-week average of 380 and is more than double the number recorded during the same period last year.
Intubations also saw a concerning rise, with nine new cases reported. While the number of patients currently on ventilators stands at 13, the trend is nonetheless worrying.
Tragically, the death toll from COVID-19 reached 21 for the week, surpassing the four-week average of 13.
Despite the concerning COVID-19 figures, EODY reported that flu-related infections remain at low levels.
Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging the public to remain vigilant.
