Greek President Meets with Cyprus Committee on 50th Anniversary of Turkish Invasion

Earlier on Friday, the President of the Hellenic Republic hosted a delegation from the Committee of Occupied Communities of Cyprus at the Presidential Mansion.

The meeting marked the 50th anniversary of the illegal Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

The delegation discussed the ongoing plight of refugees seeking the right to return to their homes, the usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties, the destruction of cultural heritage, and the denial of requests to hold services in their churches within the occupied territories.

President Sakellaropoulou expressed solidarity with the displaced individuals and their families, who continue to suffer the consequences of the invasion. She emphasised that a fair, sustainable, functional, and mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus issue remains a top priority for Greek foreign policy. Sakellaropoulou also firmly rejected the creation of new faits accomplis on the ground and any proposals for a "two-state" solution.

The delegation was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Greece, Stavros Avgoustides, and his deputy, Neophytos Constantinou.
