Paris 2024: Greek Swimmers Set for Olympic Competition

The participation lists for the swimming events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have been finalised, revealing that 16 Greek athletes (13 men and 3 women) will compete.

World Aquatics confirmed a total of 854 swimmers from 187 countries, including independent neutral athletes and the Olympic Refugee Team. The USA leads with the largest delegation of 46 swimmers, followed by Australia (41), Italy (36), China (31), and Great Britain (30).

Greece’s team includes six relay-only swimmers: Andreas Vazaios, Kostas Englezakis, Kostas Stamos, Odysseas Meladinis, Panagiotis Bolanos, and Vangelis Doumas. Their roles are limited to team events.

The individual event positions for Greek swimmers, based on their qualification performances, are as follows:

Men:
100m backstroke: Apostolos Christou (4th, 52.23), Vangelis Makrygiannis (8th, 52.83)
200m backstroke: Apostolos Siskos (7th, 1:55.42), Apostolos Christou (18th, 1:56.34)
1,500m freestyle: Dimitris Markos (27th, 15:07.61)
50m freestyle: Christian Golomeev (13th, 21.70), Stergios Bilas (15th, 21.73)
800m freestyle: Dimitris Markos (19th, 7:48.69)
200m individual medley: Apostolos Papastamos (20th, 2:00.80)
400m individual medley: Apostolos Papastamos (10th, 4:10.83)

Women:
100m butterfly: Anna Ntounaki (18th, 57.62), Georgia Damasioti (19th, 57.74)
200m butterfly: Georgia Damasioti (16th, 2:09.74)
50m freestyle: Nora Drakou (16th, 24.59)

In the team events, rankings based on times at the World Championships in Fukuoka and Doha placed Greece 9th in the 4x100m freestyle (3:13.67), 11th in the 4x200m freestyle (7:09.10), and 13th in the 4x100m mixed team event (3:46.54). Sixteen countries will participate in each relay event.
