Marinella: See the rare snapshot of the singer in the 60’s with her father

A rare snapshot of the beloved singer with her father from the 1960s has been released.

The Instagram account Elena’s Diary Blog posted a photo of Marinella at a young age next to her father. The photo is from the singer’s archive and the book “I nixtes pou eyinan mesimeria” (Nights That Turned Into Noon), written for her by Giannis Xanthopoulos.

The caption accompanying the snapshot reads: “Father and daughter: Marinella in the early 60s with her father Giorgos Papadopoulos in a rare photo from the archive of the much-loved singer and the book written about her by Yiannis Xanthoulis with the title “The nights that became noon”, (Dioptra publications). “My father was open-minded and never stopped me from following my desires,” Marinella recently told LIFO: “He knew I had an artistic streak and that I was born to do either theatre or singing. I won’t forget when, at a young age, he would put me on the table to sing to him. Now that I think about it, he was my first fan.”

Marinella, born Kyriaki Papadopoulou, is a Greek singer whose career began in 1957. She has released 66 solo albums and has been featured on many other musicians’ albums.

Even though Marinella is often considered a singer of folk songs, her range is quite broad and has included a variety of musical styles, including traditional, Laika, pop, blues, and jazz.

Marinella is characterised as “The Great Lady of Song” in Greece, where she is regarded with great respect. She rarely makes public appearances, and her concerts are few and far between, although she did perform last winter.
