Athens, Greece - Even tourists from wealthier nations are feeling the pinch in Athens as prices for food and drink skyrocket. A recent report by a Greek news outlet revealed tourists expressing shock at the high cost of traditional Greek cuisine.
One establishment with a view of the Acropolis was charging a staggering €21 for a pork souvlaki and €19 for a serving of moussaka. Combined with two beers at €7 each, a simple meal for two could easily set visitors back €70.
While some tourists interviewed by the news outlet were willing to overlook the high prices, citing the friendly atmosphere and enjoyable experience, others admitted to carefully scrutinizing menus and seeking out more affordable options.
The high cost of dining is a growing concern in Greece, impacting both locals and the vital tourism industry.
