A wildfire ignited in southern Chios on Sunday afternoon, rapidly spreading through the region between Kalamoti and the coastal village of Komi. Emergency alerts (via the 112 system) were immediately issued, urging residents to remain vigilant.
Two helicopters joined ground firefighting teams in battling the blaze, which is being exacerbated by strong winds. The fire is currently raging through an area renowned for its mastic trees and the popular tourist destination of Komi Beach.
As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or damage to structures. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
