Nikos Dendias, the Greek Minister of National Defence, concluded his visit to Cyprus with a significant meeting at the Archbishop’s Palace in Nicosia.
He was warmly received by Archbishop George, the leader of New Justinian and All Cyprus.
Addressing questions from ERT’s correspondent, Costis Constantinou, Archbishop George lamented recent historical tragedies, emphasising the enduring impact of political upheavals on Cyprus. “Every coup carries profound consequences, especially in regions like ours surrounded by formidable adversaries,” he remarked, highlighting concerns over the Turkish influence and the ongoing division of the island.
Minister Dendias echoed these sentiments, expressing solidarity with Cyprus against the backdrop of unresolved conflict stemming from past coups and the subsequent Turkish invasion. “It is regrettable that half a century later, Cyprus remains divided, contrary to international law and UN principles,” he stated solemnly during his visit to Nicosia, the last divided capital in Europe.
During his diplomatic mission, Minister Dendias also met with Greek expatriates living and working in Cyprus, underscoring the enduring bond between the two nations and their shared commitment to stability and sovereignty in the region.
