Team Europe has solidified its lineup for the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin with the addition of Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The tournament will take place at Uber Arena from September 20-22.

Three-time Grand Slam finalist Ruud, the highest-ranked Norwegian player in history, and Tsitsipas, the greatest Greek player ever and a two-time major finalist, will join forces with world No.3 Carlos Alcaraz, No.4 Alexander Zverev, No.5 Daniil Medvedev, and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal on Captain Bjorn Borg’s formidable six-man team.

For Ruud, this marks his fourth appearance at the Laver Cup, following unbeaten stints at Boston 2021, London 2022, and Vancouver 2023. Tsitsipas, too, will be participating for the fourth time, having debuted at Laver Cup Geneva 2019 and teamed up with Ruud in Boston and London.

“Casper and Stefanos are seasoned Laver Cup competitors and know how to secure crucial points,” said Borg. “I am thrilled to have them on what promises to be one of the strongest teams in Laver Cup history as we aim to win on home turf.”

Ruud, who achieved a career-high No.2 in the PIF ATP Rankings in 2022 and holds 12 ATP Tour singles titles, including recent victories on clay in Geneva and Barcelona, expressed his eagerness to contribute. “It is a privilege to be part of this outstanding team and return for another shot at the title in Berlin. We have unfinished business,” he remarked.

Tsitsipas, with 11 ATP Tour singles titles to his name, including his third ATP Masters 1000 title at Monte-Carlo this year, is also looking forward to the competition. “I’m excited to be playing the Laver Cup again,” said Tsitsipas. “It is an honor to be part of this team and to compete alongside so many great players.”

Team Europe has historically dominated the Laver Cup, winning the first four editions in Prague 2017, Chicago 2018, Geneva 2019, and Boston 2021. However, Team World has turned the tide in recent years with victories in London 2022 and Vancouver 2023.

John McEnroe, captain of Team World, has thus far named world No.6 Alex de Minaur, No.11 Taylor Fritz, No.13 Tommy Paul, and No.14 Ben Shelton. The two remaining spots on his team will be finalized by the start of the 2024 US Open.

The Laver Cup, named in honor of Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, who achieved the calendar-year Grand Slam in 1962 and 1969, pits six of Europe’s top men’s players against six from the rest of the world. Matches are held on a distinctive black court, rotating annually between Europe and World host cities. Players compete in singles and doubles matches across three days, with points increasing in value each day, culminating in the first team to reach 13 points winning the cup.
