In 2023, international air traffic to Mykonos decreased by 5.9 percent, dropping from 1.19 million tourists to 1.12 million. Santorini experienced an even steeper decline, with air traffic plummeting by 9.9 percent, from 1.7 million travelers in 2022 to 1.5 million last year.
Partial data from this year indicates that Mykonos continues its downward trend, a pattern it has been following for several years. Meanwhile, the number of international flyers to Santorini appears to have stabilized.
According to data from the Airdata tracker by the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE), airlines have scheduled 5.8 percent fewer seats on their flights to Mykonos for this year. Sources suggest that the ongoing decline in visitors to Mykonos over the past three years may be attributed to inadequate infrastructure to support the large number of tourists and elevated prices.
