A British tourist has tragically died after being rescued unconscious from the water on a Greek island. The 66-year-old woman was swimming at Achladies beach in Skiathos when she reportedly lost consciousness, likely due to the extreme heat. According to CNN Greece, she had gone down to the beach for a swim during her holiday.
A lifeguard quickly spotted her and pulled her out onto the shore, where CPR was administered by both the lifeguard and a nearby doctor. Despite their efforts, she could not be revived and was transferred to Skiathos Health Center. Plans are in place for her body to be sent to Volos for an autopsy.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office confirmed to The Sun that they are providing consular support to the woman’s friends following this tragic incident.
This comes on the heels of another heartbreaking event involving a British tourist. A 22-year-old student drowned in Lake Como, Italy, while on holiday with his girlfriend. The couple had rented a boat but struggled to swim back after strong winds pushed it far from shore.
The young woman, 19, lost sight of her boyfriend amid the choppy waters. Thankfully, she was rescued by a passing boat, but her boyfriend was reported missing. A large-scale search operation involving firefighters, rescue teams, and helicopters was launched. His body was later found nearby by a police helicopter after he initially encountered difficulties due to deteriorating weather conditions.
