An athlete from Australia's national water polo team tested positive for COVID-19 and has been isolated, with close contacts under monitoring. The team continues training with precautions, including mask-wearing and limited contacts, ahead of their match against China on July 27.
Despite this setback, the team is set to resume normal training for the upcoming water polo matches starting on Saturday, July 27th, when they will face China. Team members will wear masks and limit their contacts as a precaution, Mires noted, without naming the infected athlete.
"Late last night, she developed symptoms, and fortunately, we have our own monitoring equipment, allowing us to gather information quickly and intervene immediately. We are treating COVID like other viruses, such as the flu. We are not in Tokyo. The athlete is not particularly unwell but is resting in a single room," stated Mires. She added that the athlete will return to team activities once cleared by the medical staff.
