Athens, GreeceThe Greek Ministry of National Defense has outlined an accelerated plan to upgrade its F-16 fleet to the Viper configuration. The program, which aims to deliver all 82 upgraded fighters by the end of 2027, has faced delays in recent years.

To expedite the process, the Greek government has increased staffing levels and secured a steady supply of spare parts. The program is now in a recovery phase, with the goal of delivering a significantly higher number of upgraded aircraft in the coming years.

The upgrade is seen as crucial for the Hellenic Air Force to maintain its operational capabilities and integrate seamlessly with the F-35 and Rafale fighters. The government is also considering upgrading an additional 38 F-16s to the Viper standard, although cost remains a primary concern.

Challenges related to the program's initial delays have been addressed, and the Greek defence establishment is confident in meeting the revised timeline.
