Melbourne, Australia – Over 2000 Melburnians gathered at Federation Square on Sunday to denounce Turkey’s ongoing occupation of Cyprus. The rally, attended by prominent politicians including Bill Shorten and Steve Dimopoulos, was a powerful display of solidarity with the Cypriot people.
Demonstrators expressed their opposition to Turkey’s efforts to establish a separate Turkish Cypriot state and its disregard for the internationally recognized government of Cyprus. Speakers at the rally condemned Turkey’s military presence and human rights abuses against the Cypriot people.
The rally also served as a platform to highlight the plight of the missing Greek Cypriots and to call for justice and accountability. Attendees laid wreaths in memory of the thousands who lost their lives during the Turkish invasion in 1974.

The event comes amid increasing tensions between Greece and Turkey over Cyprus, with Ankara continuing to assert its influence in the region. The Melbourne rally sends a clear message to the Turkish government that its actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the international community.
