After the mansion was constructed in 1897 and Irodou Attikou Street was laid out, the area was transformed into a 25,000-square-meter ornamental garden.

Architecture and Design

The garden’s design is attributed to Ernst Ziller’s office, the same architects responsible for the mansion itself. It embodies a neoclassical style, harmonizing with other iconic Greek structures like the Academy, University, and Old National Library.

Upon entering, visitors encounter its formal, geometric layout influenced by French gardens, featuring symmetrical lawns and seasonal flower beds. This structured elegance facing Irodou Attikou Street is complemented by ancient plane trees, lindens, palms, and cypresses.

The Two Sections

The garden is divided into two distinctive sections, following the natural slope of the terrain. The upper section, housing the mansion, retains the French-style symmetry. A broad marble staircase descends to the larger lower section, which boasts its own captivating elements. Here, a path flanked by towering cypresses leads to a pond and pavilion, serving as the focal point.

The lower section maintains its formal symmetry with expansive lawns, terraced gardens, flower beds, and shaded groves.
