Athens Hotel Occupancy Reaches 75.5% in First Half of 2024

Athens’s hotel industry has seen a boost in the first half of 2024, with occupancy rates climbing to 75.5% compared to 72.9% in the same period last year.

While June typically marks the peak season, with occupancy reaching 91.7%, this represents a slight decline from the previous year.

Despite the positive occupancy figures, the average daily rate (ADR) has surged by 10.7% to 143.03 euros, leading to a 14.5% increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) to 107.96 euros.

A key factor influencing these numbers is the growing number of non-hotel accommodations, such as short-term rentals, which has increased competition for traditional hotels. Athens currently boasts 34,953 hotel beds and an average of 52,500 short-term rental beds.

While the data indicates a strong performance for the city’s hospitality sector, industry experts suggest that the increasing number of available beds may be putting downward pressure on average occupancy rates for hotels.
