EU Commission Praises Greece's Rule of Law in Positive Report

The European Commission's latest report on the rule of law in Greece has been met with high praise from government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, who described the findings as extremely positive during a press briefing on Thursday.

Marinakis highlighted the report as a strong rebuttal to those spreading false information about Greece internationally.

Marinakis emphasised that the report acknowledges Greece's effective response to the Commission's previous recommendations. It commends the country's legislative measures ensuring judicial participation in leadership selection, the digitisation of justice, and increased efficiency and speed in judicial processes. The report also praises Greece's strategic use of the Recovery and Resilience Facility programme, reflecting the country's commitment to economic recovery and growth.

Significant progress in combating corruption is recognised, particularly through enhanced transparency and integrity in public procurement. The report also highlights advancements in the media sector, noting improvements in administrative and legislative frameworks, ownership transparency, and the protection of free speech. Furthermore, it acknowledges improvements in the legislative process and positive developments in the Ministry of Migration and Asylum's cooperation with Civil Society Organisations.

Marinakis stated that the report's findings validate the government's efforts towards increased transparency, judicial efficiency, and press freedom. "The results of the report are the best and most resounding response to those who systematically attempt to slander Greece abroad with fake news. We still have many steps to take in order to realize our goals and continue to steadily improve the quality of our Republic, 50 years after its restoration," he said.

The report includes a series of recommendations and observations that serve as a roadmap for future policy interventions. The government's response to these recommendations is seen as evidence of its commitment to continuous improvement in governance and the rule of law.
