He may be considered one of the hottest names in the Greek music scene today, but in August 2004 Giorgos Sabanis was one of the most rising stars of Greek athletics as a track and field champion and holder of 14 gold pan-Hellenic medals.

At the unforgettable Opening Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the 21-year-old Giorgos Sabanis was the one who appeared in the role of the runner, tearing 28 ribbons that marked the times of the modern Summer Olympic Games from 1896 to 2004.
