Apostolos Christou Makes History with First 100m Backstroke Final at Paris 2024; Vangelis Makrygiannis Misses Final by Tiny Margin

Greek swimmer Apostolos Christou takes bronze at European Championships

For the first time in his career, European champion Apostolos Christou will compete in the 100 m backstroke final of the Olympic Games in Paris on Monday (29/7, 22:19). The Greek swimmer participated in the second semi-final series and finished second with a performance of 52.77, qualifying with the sixth-best performance.

Vangelis Makrygiannis was unlucky. After his very good performance (52.97), he finished sixth in the first row and ninth overall, missing the final by just two-hundredths of a second.

Apostolos Papastamos finished with a time of 4:15.32 and eighth place in the 400-meter medley and failed to qualify for the final.
