The Head On Photo Awards 2024, an eminent event in the global photography calendar, invites submissions from both emerging and established photographers worldwide. Recognized as Australia's premier photography competition, it embraces a diverse range of photographic genres, including portrait, landscape, and environmental themes.
The competition, part of the Head On Photo Festival, offers a substantial prize pool totalling $80,000 AUD. Each main category winner receives $10,000 AUD, alongside additional prizes like book packs from Photobook Australia and subscriptions to prominent photography magazines. The Landscape category features a special camera package worth approximately $8,000 AUD
This year Head On has introduced a new category, ‘Exposure’ to accommodate images in all styles and genres, such as advertising, street, architecture, fine art, travel and anything else that does not fit into Portrait or Landscape.
Another new highlight this year is 50% discounted entry for anyone under 25.
A hallmark of the Head On Photo Awards is its anonymous judging process, ensuring fairness and merit-based evaluation. The judging panel consists of esteemed professionals from the Australian and international photography communities, including curators, educators, and professional photographers.
Finalists will have their work exhibited at the Head On Photo Festival, which takes place across iconic venues in Sydney. This exhibition attracts tens of thousands of visitors and provides significant exposure for the photographers, with opportunities for further international touring.
The competition opened for entries on July 1, 2024, with a deadline of August 18, 2024. The entry fee is $30 AUD, and photographers from all over the world are encouraged to participate.
Submissions close 18 August 2024.
