Tsantalis, one of Greece’s most storied winemakers, has filed for bankruptcy, with a court hearing scheduled for October 11 in Thessaloniki.

The company, renowned for its long history dating back to the late 19th century, is also seeking a date to halt its payments.

The president of the workers' union, Sakis Kalligas, revealed that Tsantalis has been facing severe financial difficulties, which led to a complete halt in production starting August 2023. This marks the first time in the company’s history that it has failed to harvest grapes or produce wine.

The company has been struggling with persistent financial troubles despite multiple attempts to secure its future and attract potential investors. Tsantalis' financial woes underscore the broader challenges facing the Greek winemaking industry amid economic uncertainties.
