Major Upgrades Announced for Athens' Ancient Agora

The Ministry of Culture, through the Athens City Antiquities Ephorate, is spearheading a comprehensive upgrade of the Ancient Agora of Athens. This initiative aims to enhance visitor services and improve the site's infrastructure and accessibility.

Key Upgrades

- New Entrance and Accessibility Improvements: A new entrance/exit gate will be established on Hadrian's Street, with improvements to the site's overall accessibility.
- Functional Enhancements: The current entrance on Hadrian's Street will be upgraded, including the replacement of the ticket office, organisation of waiting areas, and provision of shading.
- Sanitary Facilities: Existing facilities in the Attalos Lodge will be renovated, with new amenities added to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
- Urban Furniture: New seating, information signs, and perimeter poles will be installed to improve the visitor experience.

Additional Details

- Access for Disabled Visitors: Efforts will be made to improve wheelchair accessibility and reduce the difficulty of navigating the terrain.
- Infrastructure Upgrades: Water supply and sewage networks will be updated to support the enhanced facilities.

Timeline and Implementation

The project will focus initially on the main entrance and will extend to other entrances, including those on Asteroscopio and Apostolos Pavlos streets. The goal is to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the Ancient Agora.
