"This year marks a somber anniversary for Cyprus and Hellenism," Kotsiras noted, referring to the 50th anniversary of the illegal invasion of Cyprus.
Kotsiras reiterated that Greece and Cyprus, united by fraternal bonds, respect international law and strive for a fair, permanent, and mutually accepted solution to the Cyprus issue based on UN resolutions. He asserted that the perpetuation of the current status quo or the creation of two states in Cyprus are unacceptable solutions for both Greece and Europe.
The deputy minister praised the Diaspora's efforts in defending national claims and emphasized its crucial role in "awakening the international community" about the Cypriot issue.
He highlighted the Greek government's commitment to strengthening ties with the global Hellenic community and mentioned recent initiatives to support this effort. Key among these is the Strategic Plan of the Foreign Ministry for Greeks Abroad 2024-2027, which aims to enhance the connection between Greece and its Diaspora, foster effective two-way communication, and strengthen the global Greek presence.
"We invest in a national capital relationship with the Diaspora, which in return strengthens Hellenism and amplifies our voice and the voice of Cyprus," Kotsiras concluded.
