The Olympic Games are a historic event. They trace their roots back to ancient Greece, where they were one of four PanHellenic Games.

As the oldest and largest, they were an integral part of ancient Greek society and derived their name from their location in Olympia.

So, naturally, when Greek athletes achieve success in any sport, they become the centre of the celebration. On the fifth day of the judo event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the party could officially begin thanks to Theodoros TSELIDIS.

The -90kg category boasted a talented field of athletes, including Tselidis, who proved his prowess today by claiming the bronze medal. In the bronze medal contest, he faced the rising star of Team Spain, Tristani MOSAKHLISHVILI, in a thrilling battle between top-tier athletes. However, in this sport, there can only be one winner, and today, that was Tselidis. An ashi guruma attack earned him a waza-ari score that Mosakhlishvili couldn’t overcome, resulting in a fifth-place finish.

Despite having every right to celebrate this monumental achievement, Tselidis demonstrated the true values of judo by showing the utmost respect for his opponent and understanding the disappointment of defeat.
