“Disconnect Me” had its international premiere at the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival earlier this year where it played to sold out houses and secured a distribution deal with a US distribution company and will be released later in the year in the US whilst also selling into Europe.

Directed by independent filmmaker Alex Lykos (Alex & Eve, Me & My Left Brain), the film centres around Alex who disconnects from his smartphone for 30 days.

How will he and those around him react? What will be the effects on his life? And what will become of his own mental health?

Along the way, Alex investigates the social impacts of the smartphone and social media, interviewing academia, adults, teenagers, and children.

“The film is light and accessible. It’s not preachy and I think this is why teenagers have been engaging with the film,” said Lykos.

The film has been playing in schools across Australia where Alex Lykos has been talking to teenagers about their relationship with social media.
