Western Peloponnese, a place of diverse beauty

Western Peloponnese is a wonderful but infrequently visited part of Greece. However, the beaches of Messinia and Ilia are starting to attract visitors from all over the world. The region's oil and olives are global products, and it offers wonderful hiking and rafting.

The western coastline of the Peloponnese is one of the most beautiful and impressive in Greece. With its vast area, Agiannakis Beach in Messinia has a unique beauty embraced by a coastal forest.

Lake Caiaphas and the beach next to it have created a unique ecosystem. The beach of Zaharos attracts thousands of vacationers every year, while even more go to Kourouta. Another natural masterpiece of the area is the Neda Gorge, which has waterfalls.

Journalist Dimitris Stathopoulos and photographer Kostis Angelopoulos travelled to the region and made an impressive video.

The video features the towns and villages of the region: Kyparissia with its emblematic castle, Sidirokastro, also known as the "Village of Statues," and the picturesque Taxiarches in Ilia.

The railway no longer crosses the Peloponnese, but magnificent arched bridges such as the Manari Bridge, which has stood proudly since 1896, remind us of its presence.

But above all, Travel had the opportunity to get to know the residents and professionals of the Western Peloponnese, who have succeeded in promoting their area as a top destination.

Agritourism investments, traditional gastronomy, excellent accommodation, and tours of high-value crops help create unforgettable travel experiences in the region.

Travel also met an actor who left Athens and returned to Messinia due to his love for horses, a family that creates pasta, and farmers who grow premium products organically.

In addition to producing excellent olive oil, olive growers act as ambassadors of Greek cuisine through tasting activities.

Catering and hospitality entrepreneurs have managed to stand out and make visitors return to Ilia and Messinia. A long weekend or a more extended getaway to destinations like the ones above is definitely a great idea.
