Nestled at an altitude of 1,000 metres in the mountainous region of the Municipality of Meteora lies the unique and picturesque "Alekos Beach."

Located near the village of Agia Paraskevi (Tzourtzia) in central Aspropotamos, this natural lake formed by the waters of Aspropotamos offers a refreshing escape amidst the stunning alpine landscapes of the Pindos mountains.

Each summer, the crystal-clear waters of Alekos Beach attract visitors seeking relief from the heat, making it an increasingly popular destination. Despite the major damage caused by last September's floods, the Municipality of Meteora has revitalized the area with targeted actions such as adding wooden tables and chairs, creating a beach volleyball court, and landscaping the surroundings. These improvements have made Alekos Beach a special retreat for both locals and tourists.

Mayor Lefteris Avramopoulos expressed his enthusiasm for the restored area: "This August, the 'diamond' of our municipality, the enchanting Aspropotamos, is ready to welcome thousands of visitors. The villages of Aspropotamos are already bustling with life. Nearly a year after the devastating floods, we've worked tirelessly to restore water supply networks and village roads."

In collaboration with the Region of Thessaly, the municipality has provided temporary access to facilitate holidaymakers' journeys to their villages. Mayor Avramopoulos also extended special thanks to Minister of Interior Thodoris Livanios for his support and funding, which has been crucial in ensuring water and access to the villages. Looking ahead, the mayor called on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to advance the €170 million projects needed for permanent road repairs.

"We stand by our villages and are committed to promoting our unique natural landscapes, like Alekos Beach, to boost tourism in the region," concluded Mayor Avramopoulos.
