A member of the Australian hockey team has been arrested in Paris on allegations of attempting to purchase cocaine, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) confirmed.
The arrest occurred in the city's ninth arrondissement, as reported by the Paris Public Prosecutor's office.
The AOC has yet to identify whether the individual is a player or staff member, or whether they belong to the men's or women's team. Both the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras were eliminated from the Olympics at the quarter-final stage earlier this week.
The Paris Public Prosecutor's office stated that the arrest took place on the night of August 6-7, with the Australian detained after a cocaine transaction was witnessed by police. The seller, who was also arrested, was found with 75 ecstasy pills, 3 grams of 2 MMC, and seven vials of cocaine. The case has been handed over to the Narcotics Squad for further investigation.
The AOC is currently conducting its own inquiries and providing support to the detained team member.
