Eleni-Klaoudia Polak Disqualified from Paris Olympics Following Failed Drug Test

Eleni-Klaoudia Polak, a pole vaulter representing Greece, has been provisionally suspended and disqualified from the women's pole vault event at the Paris Olympics due to a failed drug test, as announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The test results indicated an "adverse analytical finding."

As a result of her disqualification, the qualification results from Tuesday's event at the Stade de France have been amended to reflect this decision. The disqualification falls under Anti-Doping Rule 10.1, according to the IOC.

In contrast, New Zealand has successfully qualified three athletes—Eliza McCartney, Imogen Ayris, and Olivia McTaggart—for the pole vault final, which will feature an unusually high number of 19 competitors.

Additionally, a Greek athlete—whose identity and sport have not been disclosed—was also reported to have tested positive for banned substances at the Paris Games and has since been expelled from the athletes' village. The Greek Olympic Committee received this information from the country's anti-doping agency on Monday afternoon, leading to the athlete's provisional suspension and removal from the team.

So far, there have been only a few positive drug tests reported during the Olympics, including Nigerian boxers, such as Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Cynthia Ogunsemilore and Iraqi judoka Sajjad Sehen, who tested positive for steroids just a day before the Games began.
