The Greek Interior Ministry announced the allocation of €11.25 million to address water shortages in municipalities and Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprises (DEYA).
Interior Minister Thodoris Livanios signed an invitation for proposals aimed at improving the management of water resources and infrastructures providing potable water.
The funding will focus on two key actions: drilling new wells or upgrading existing ones, and utilising desalinated water through the rental of desalination systems. Each proposal can request up to €150,000.
However, municipalities in the Regions of the Ionian Islands, North Aegean, and South Aegean are exempt from this funding as they will receive support from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.
DEYAs, as described by the Interior Ministry, are specialized municipal enterprises that operate like private businesses and are self-funded, thereby not impacting the state budget.
