Melbourne Victory is poised to bolster its attacking lineup with the signing of Greek striker Nikos Vergos.
The 28-year-old is expected to arrive in Australia this week after leaving Greek Super League club Atromitos, despite having a season remaining on the two-year contract he signed in July of last year. Initially, Vergos was in advanced discussions with the Victory before ultimately deciding on Atromitos.
Now, it appears the Victory has successfully secured his services, adding Vergos to an attacking lineup that already features Socceroos stars Bruno Fornaroli, Daniel Arzani, and Ben Folami. Fornaroli played a key role in the Victory’s recent 4-1 rout of NPL Northern NSW side Lambton in the Australia Cup round-of-32 on Tuesday night.
Nishan Velupillay scored twice in that match, while 17-year-old Alex Lee marked his senior debut with a goal for the Melbourne club.
