In a significant development in Greece, pets now have their own electronic identity profiles, which veterinarians can update following veterinary visits. Pet owners can easily access this information through the Gov.gr Wallet, a mobile application enabling citizens to create, store, and view various digital documents.

The Gov.gr Wallet will feature essential details such as the pet’s name, photo, microchip number, and medical history, including vaccination records. This new functionality allows pet owners to monitor their pets’ health more effectively and act quickly if their animals go missing.

This initiative integrates the National Pet Register, accessible via pet.gov.gr, into the Gov.gr Wallet, thanks to a collaborative effort involving three Greek ministries: the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

These ministries have simplified processes for Greek citizens by offering access to the Gov.gr Wallet via mobile devices through the App Store or Google Play, as well as via the wallet.gov.gr website.

Features of the Gov.gr Wallet

The pet identification feature is the latest addition to the Gov.gr Wallet, which now encompasses ten different categories of data. Other categories include Police Identity Cards, Driver’s Licenses, cards for individuals with mobility or health challenges, digital unemployment cards, vehicle ownership documents, academic identity cards, and more.

New Features for Sports Fans

In addition, a recent enhancement to the Gov.gr Wallet caters to sports fans living abroad, enabling them to confirm their identities for event tickets by scanning the NFC chip in their passports. To utilize this feature, passport holders with NFC chips must access the Gov.gr Wallet app, circumvent code requirements, enter guest mode, and select “event tickets.”

Streamlining Services with Gov.gr Wallet

Another pivotal feature of the Wallet allows citizens to authorize the sharing of their personal data with third parties, including public and private organizations. This innovation removes the need for individuals to present identification or other documents in person; authorized entities can now electronically access the required information. For instance, insurance companies can automatically receive all necessary data registered by public authorities for vehicle insurance purposes.

As of now, the Gov.gr Wallet app has been successfully installed on the mobile devices of 4,076,645 Greek citizens.
