The Hellenic Police have introduced special measures to manage the anticipated surge in travelers on national highways ahead of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary holiday on August 15th.
These measures aim to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow, focusing on high-risk areas and periods of peak travel.
Key initiatives include:
- Increased Patrols: Police presence will be intensified in accident-prone areas across the road network, with targeted patrols to monitor and manage traffic.
- Traffic Enforcement: Strict enforcement of traffic laws will be implemented at the entrances and exits of major urban centers, where high traffic volumes are expected.
- Crowded Areas: Heightened traffic control measures will be in place in areas with large passenger gatherings, such as airports, ports, and transportation hubs.
- Traffic Control Units: Special units will be deployed to detect and address dangerous driving violations.
Additionally, restrictions on truck movement will be enforced for vehicles over 3.5 tons during peak hours:
- Outbound from urban centres: Wednesday, August 14 from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturday, August 17 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
- Inbound to urban centres: Sunday, August 18 from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
These measures are designed to enhance road safety and reduce congestion during one of Greeceās busiest travel periods.
