Giannis Reacts to Milwaukee Bucks Missing Out on Christmas Day Game in 2024

Greece, Giannis Antetokounmpo flying in the air

For the first time since the 2017-18 season, the Milwaukee Bucks will not be playing on Christmas Day, and Giannis Antetokounmpo has shared his thoughts on this surprising news. After Greece’s exit from the Olympic Games, he took to social media on Friday to express his disappointment, posting, “No Christmas game?!” along with a laughing-crying emoji.

The Bucks, who faced a first-round playoff exit for the second consecutive year, were reportedly overlooked in favor of several other teams, including the San Antonio Spurs featuring the much-anticipated Victor Wembanyama, as well as the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Lakers. The New York Knicks will once again be featured on Christmas, marking their 56th appearance.

Last year, Milwaukee suffered a 129-122 defeat to the Knicks in a Christmas Day matchup at Madison Square Garden, bringing their all-time Christmas record to an even 5-5. Notably, the franchise had not participated in Christmas games from 1978 until 2017, with their last home game on the holiday occurring in 2021.

While the official NBA schedule has yet to be released, an initial post from The Athletic outlining possible Christmas Day matchups did not include the Bucks. Fans can expect the complete schedule, including the newly introduced in-season tournament, to be announced soon. Season ticket holders have already been informed that individual game tickets will go on sale starting August 16.
