Stefanos Kasselakis visited the area of Chalandri, where the flames approached threateningly, following his attendance at the Coordination Center for Civil Protection.

“It’s not the right time to discuss the shortcomings that brought this fire literally to Athens,” stated St. Kasselakis at the ESKEDIK.

According to an announcement from Koumoundourou, the president of SYRIZA PS met with the mayor of the city, Simos Roussos, and was informed about the dramatic moments that residents experienced and the tremendous efforts made to combat the spread of the fire.

The hundreds of residents who were outside their homes tried to assist in the firefighting efforts, expressing their anger and frustration over feeling completely abandoned by the state. Some residents shared with Mr. Kasselakis what they had experienced in the past hours and the insecurity they felt as the danger still persisted. Some mentioned that he was the only political figure who had come to visit them, with a young man saying, “What can we do? We are trying to save whatever we can, at least what is left.”

Mr. Kasselakis visited several areas and committed that SYRIZA-PS would stand by the affected people at all levels. He expressed gratitude to the firefighters, volunteers, and residents for their superhuman efforts. “Facing many images of total destruction, experiencing the suffocating atmosphere and hearing dramatic calls for help,” noted the announcement, Mr. Kasselakis addressed the citizens, saying, “Incredible that this is happening in Athens.”
