Many of Athens' busiest areas were empty, with streets deserted of pedestrians and cars.
August 15th, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, means that the usually bustling Greek capital is empty since many Athenians have left for their summer holidays.
The heart of Athens, such as Panepistimio and Akadimia, was empty today, and photos even show people crossing the deserted streets undisturbed by cars and traffic.
Shops and supermarkets are closed today.
